This chocolate is unlike any other. The lava salt from Saltverk is treated with activated charcoal, giving this bar its dramatic color. The savory notes in this chocolate are a result of the bar's inspiration--well roasted malted barley, usually used in brewing porters and stouts. The stark black choocolate is then topped with popped Icelandic barley, coated in chocolate.

This is for me a novel combination of flavours; the rich chocolate, earthy barley, sweet and salty with a slight bitterness. Delicious!
I found the burnt puffed barley on top a bit surprising and a little insect-like. It's a good thing I'm not squeamish. Flavour-wise, it has a nice rich flavour that is a little unusual (in a good way). I'm a fan of unique flavours. So, I give it a thumbs up!
